When Alejandro Dewindt and Jazmin Araque first connected with BCL of Texas, they weren’t ready for financing yet—but they were ready to grow.

Through the Dallas Diversity Fund, BCL works to ensure entrepreneurs have not only access to capital, but the guidance and tools needed to use it effectively. For Dewindt Design, that journey began with business coaching.

Originally from Venezuela, Alejandro and Jazmin rebuilt their lives in the United States after leaving behind a successful business due to unsafe conditions. Starting over meant taking on various jobs while slowly working their way back into entrepreneurship. Alejandro, an architect by training, began taking on renovation projects, eventually proving his skills through multiple successful home rehabilitations.

In 2024, the couple officially launched Dewindt Design in Dallas, securing their first contract with a real estate company. But like many growing construction businesses, they faced a critical challenge: cash flow. Projects required upfront capital for materials and labor, while payments were only received after completion and inspection.

When they first approached BCL, they were not approved for a loan.

Instead of stopping there, they leaned in.

With support from BCL’s Entrepreneurship Coach, Leo, they began building the financial foundation their business needed. They worked through key challenges such as understanding credit, managing cash flow across multiple projects, separating personal and business finances, and tracking profit and loss.

“They were the first people who trusted us,” Jazmin shared.

With that trust—and preparation—they were later approved for financing through BCL.

In total, Dewindt Design received $30,000 in funding to support working capital and equipment. One of their most impactful investments was the purchase of a dump trailer, eliminating the need to spend approximately $300 per week on rentals. Beyond reducing costs, this investment also created a new potential revenue stream, allowing them to provide hauling services to other contractors.

More than funding, the experience gave them structure, confidence, and the ability to make informed financial decisions.

Today, they describe their journey in three words: learning, painful growth, and resilience.

As a couple, building a business has come with challenges—but also shared victories.

“Building a business together hasn’t been easy, but it has made us stronger,” Jazmin shared. “This was the best decision we could have made for our family.”

Looking ahead, their goals include expanding their client base, securing additional contracts, opening a physical workspace, and investing in equipment and marketing to continue growing.

What began as a story of survival has evolved into something much greater—a path toward stability, growth, and long-term opportunity.

At BCL of Texas, this is what stewardship looks like: not just providing capital, but equipping entrepreneurs with the tools, knowledge, and support to build lasting success.
